SkyBridge, Gatlinburg’s newest attraction, spans the length of about two football fields and sits 140 feet above the ground. The 680-foot pedestrian-only suspension bridge is the longest in North America and offers some of the most epic views of Gatlinburg, TN and the Great Smoky Mountains.

We recently visited and let me tell you – this adventure did not disappoint!

Can I first confess my leeriness of heights and my fear of falling? I’ll also admit to being a little stubborn and somewhat rebellious.

So up I went!

The whole experience was a little scary at times but overall exhilarating! Only once did I have to resist the gripping urge to turn back.

I made it all the way across…and back. I’m glad I did it and if I’m being completely honest I would probably go for it again.

Things To Know Before You Go

  • The bridge is constructed mostly of wood, though the railings are constructed of wire and giant cables.

SkyLift Park

SkyLift Gatlinburg

To travel across the SkyBridge, you’ll need to take the Skylift. An eight-minute ride on this open-air chairlift ascends 500-feet, transporting you from the heart of Gatlinburg to Skylift Park, which sits at the top of Crockett Mountain.

The Glass Bottom

In the middle of the SkyBridge lay a 15-foot stretch where there is nothing but a thick plate of glass between you and the ground. It’s a pretty popular spot for people to want to stop and take in all the views.

I was not properly warned about this nonsense…but don’t worry…I am here for you. I will not let you rush out..blissfully unaware of what lies ahead. (Kidding. Sort-of. But you’re welcome.)

My boyfriend actually loved it and stopped to take some pictures here.

Crossing the SkyBridge

Not me.

I wanted to so badly, and I swear I tried to make myself but..I. could. not. look. down. (I am the one with the death grip on the cable railing in the photo above.)

SkyCenter

SkyCenter Deck

Once you get to the top, make a right at the SkyCenter to view and purchase your souvenir photo. Step inside to grab some fresh munchies, a cold drink, or a new t-shirt.

Wander up to the second floor where you’ll find the bar, indoor and outdoor seating, and more spectacular views of the Great Smoky Mountains.

If crossing the SkyBridge isn’t for you, enjoy a snack from the cafe or grab a chair and sip on cold craft beer while you do a little people watching and soak up the scenery.

I’m betting this is an absolutely magical spot to take in the sunset or to watch the city sparkle into the night.
